Giving Blood

Giving Blood

Love, they say is unconditional. Love is pure. Love knows only about giving it asks for no favours in return.

A little girl needed blood right away. Hers was a rare blood group and there was no blood ready in the blood bank that would be acceptable to her.

The doctor looked at her brother; a little boy of ten. “Son, would you give your blood for your sister? I promise we won’t hurt you.” The little boy looked innocently into the doctor’s eyes and asked, “Will it save her life?” “Absolutely,” replied the doctor, trying to give a re-assuring smile. The boy took a deep breath and said, “Okay, I’ll do it.”

The doctor held his hand and lay him down on the stretcher. He inserted a fine needle into his arm and the blood started to tickle into the tube. The little boy looked nervously at the tube that led to the bottle and asked, “Doctor, will I start to die right away?”

The little boy in his innocence thought that he would have to give all his blood to save his baby sister.
And he was ready to do it.
That’s love!
